Waiting for it to Happen

My wife was due on September the 8th. A prior week's doctor’s appointment showed signs that Owen was beginning to open the door to the new world. I spent the whole week leading up to the 8th not wanting to schedule appointments away from home in case we needed to go to the hospital. My wife was in pain/discomfort most of the week, which in turn made me a bit stretched. That week passed without much changed.

Tuesday the 9th, and a day late we were back at Dr. J's. I was beginning to realize that his prior week's comments that we had a 50/50 chance of making this appointment instead of delivering wasn't just playing it safe. Until contractions arrive, there's no way to tell when a un-induced birth will start. I began to think that we had more time than I gave myself the prior week.

The exam showed the door was only 30% open. Last week's 10% had me thinking it was around the corner. A 20% progress for the week lead me to believe I might have another week before we were even half way there. I fully planned to make my busy day of appointments the following day.

I had every kind of important appointment scheduled for the 19th. I had a new client install, meetings with client's personnel before their own maternity leave, potential new opportunity interviews, and even my own life insurance physical exam scheduled.

It turned out that making those appointments was going to be difficult.
