Plenty of time

Just a day after my wife's due date at a visit with Dr. J, I thought I had some time. I needed time, I still hadn't had my life insurance physical exam which was scheduled that day. Well I think Dr. J had different plans.

The afternoon following the visit, my wife's usual post exam discomfort became more regular. At 2 or 3 pm she realized this discomfort was coming and going about every 10 minutes. When she came to me working diligently in my office and said her usual "Just to make you aware..." I dismissed it. It couldn't be anything real, I was still convinced I had time. I needed more time. I still needed life insurance. After all, watching the birth of my son could cause me to pass out, hit my head, and be... well... you know.

Welcome... now here's the reason to stay tuned

Welcome to Owen’s Father’s Blog, Discovering Fatherhood, with Owen Remi Rabinowitz. I’m going to share with you the basics so you’ll want to follow along and can jump right in with some interest.

I have always been somewhat a techie gadget guy, and have made technology and computers my career for the past few years. However I’m not the geek who would have a blog. I wouldn't even want to read a blog. I’m sure many of you who I know and have told to check out my blog have little interest in visiting this site more than one time. Thanks for reading this far, I know I wouldn’t.

However, something happened to me this week that not only compelled me to start my first blog, but might make me interested in other father’s blogs. Ok, not really, but maybe if I knew that person and they were going to be as open and honest about the experience as I plan to be here.

Openness and honesty is not something I love to do, but I think I’ve found the perfect reason to try. My first child came into the world this week of September 2008.

Despite what every father I knew told me, I didn’t think the event would be worth much more than email to more than the most limited family and friends. I kept hearing how wonderful fatherhood was. People constantly asked me if I was excited.

While my wife got to grow attached to this thing growing inside her, I continued about my business in every sense of the word. I didn’t think fatherhood was going to be remarkable for me. I thought it might have some moments of delight, but also a great deal of frustration. This may still come to be, but the event has affected me much more than I expected. I hope you find the same with the content I share with you here.
